Photo Geeks 2009/2010

Hey Photo Geeks,
Sorry Jamie and I have not been around much this summer, but there has been some changes and I wanted to tell you myself. As some of you may have heard I have left Construction Tech Academy. My choice to leave CTA and the rest of Kearny was very difficult because I felt like it was home and everyone there was like family, but, in the end the path I have taken is opening new avenues of growth for myself and my family. I was offered a position back in industry as the Education Coordinator for the Associated General Contractors. Here I will oversee the instructors and the development of new curriculum for San Diego, Orange, and Riverside counties.

Although I have left CTA I still wish to be involved with CTA as much as possible. Jamie and I have asked to still run the photo club and we have been given approval. That means that the meetings will still take place on Mondays somewhere on the Kearny campus.

We will also begin to post new assignments soon as well as setting up field trips. Some of the places we would like to take you are the North County Gas and Steam Engine Museum, Mission San Juan Capistrano, the Steam Engine Museum in Potrero, Balboa Park and many others. We are open to suggestions if there is somewhere you would like to photograph.

In addition to our meetings and field trips, we also have access to Photoshop this year and Jamie will be setting up some tutorials to teach you guys how to use Photoshop effectively (Jamie is the Photoshop queen).

Last semester taught Jamie and I a great deal about how to run a photography club and we are going to take that knowledge and change things up a bit. It took us a while to realize that you guys didn’t want to come and learn techniques, you wanted to come and shoot. So this year the entire club will be treated like a learning lab.

All the assignments for the semester will be posted on the blog. We would like you post at least one completed assignment per week on the blog. This will give you the freedom to work on assignments as you feel inspired to. The club time will now be used for you guys to come in and brainstorm with us and each other, shoot, work on your photos on the computer or learn new photo techniques. Jack and I will bring lighting, extension tubes, different lenses and other tools that you can use on your assignments. Please remember that we only have three cameras so not all of you can shoot every week, so checking out cameras and shooting on your own will be very important.

We are also going to try and have a gallery walk each quarter! So that means we need all of you to be shooting as much as possible to get some great shots. The gallery walk will be similar to what we did at the end of the year. So be prepared for another mounting party.

Jamie and I will decide when the first photo club meeting will take place and try to let everyone know. We had a lot of seniors last year that will no longer be with us so please spread the word and tell your friends.

Mr. Chapel and Jamie

North Carolina

So I came to North Carolina to help some family friends take care of their two little girls and I was asked to take some pictures of them while i was here. On some of the pictures I edited the contrast and saturation but most just came out pretty good. I hope you enjoy!
