Okay I know that Jamie and I are supposed to be on vacation but we could not help but post some of out pics that we took over the past few days... Basically we are trying to make you all jealous that we're here and your there! Hope your all having a great vacation and pray that we make it home before I aggravate Jamie to much (24 hours a day for 5 days just might be our undoing). Enjoy your holidays and we will see you back at school soon. Remember you have your "Holiday", "Portrait" and "Worms eye view" assignments to email to Jamie before the break is up. Photo Contest!

Sorry for the late post here, I forgot to add this earlier in the week. So most of you know that we are having a photo contest on your assignment over break. Shoot something that represents "the holidays" and submit one and only one photo to me to post on the blog. We will vote for the winner at our first meeting after the break. The winner gets to pick their prize. Either a photo that they have taken will be printed and framed, or a gift card to Ritz camera to print your digital photos. Each student and teach will get one vote and only student submissions will be voted on. Ms. Herrmann, Mr. Chapel or I would be more than happy to help you make your photo selection if you feel you need some input.

Speaking of photo contests, Miriam emailed me the link to a few sites that do photo contests Everyone should check it out. One of them gives scholarships to students.

Also, I gave you guys another assignment, but I have holiday brain and can't for the life of me remember what it was! If anyone remembers what the third assignment was please email me and tell me so I can post it. Sorry guys, I tend to be a little forgetful.

Self-Portrait Through Shadow

This week's assignment is to create a self-portrait through use of your shadow. Experiment with photographing your shadow from natural light or from indoor light, use partial shadows, or stretch the definition of "shadow". You may want to include additional visual details to help support your self-portrait. Have fun with this assignment!!

This week will be my last crazy week and then I am all yours. I am going to post a few photos that have come in over the last week so we can talk about them in class. Self Portrait and Open assignments

Coral was the first to send in his assignments so I will post his now and add to the post as I get everyone's photos. I shot my open assignment today, I will work on it and post it with my self portrait some tomorrow or Saturday. I am very impressed with Coral's self portrait, we were talking about it the other day and he told me something that is really important for everyone to know. He admitted that he got the idea from the internet. I want you guys to know that finding ideas on the internet is a great idea. I frequently turn to other photographers work for inspiration. The chances of your photos or my photos coming out just like the one you saw online is slim. Take and idea and make it your own! The more photos you look at the better photographer you will become. My process usually involves doing an image search for what I am doing, finding a handful of ideas that I like, writing down the ideas and mulling over them for a day or two until I have something solid pictured to go off of.

Flower! Flowers! Flowers!

So we only had two of you show up to shoot flowers, bummer! But so great for the two that came. Not only did we have some beautiful light (no rain!), but the boys got all the flowers to themselves and had access to all of the Chapel Canon lenses. I guess you guys missed out! Anyhow, I have the first few flower photo to post and will put up more as I get them.
